Guest Author Sunday
Meet this week's Guest Author-Kathleen Christensen. Kathleen's first trip to Walt Disney World was in 1984 with her husband and then 10 month old son and of course, it was love of Disney at first site! Enjoy her article on one of her more romantic journeys to Epcot.
Disney World is known for being " The Happiest Place on Earth" I can't deny my family has been there more times than we can count, we've been very lucky.
My first visit to the Magic Kingdom was in December of 1984, our son was only 10 months old, we drove over from Tampa, went to the Magic Kingdom for the day and fell in love with it immediately! Every visit since then is just as special as the first time! We've been lucky enough to share the experiences with both of our sons many, many times and have also enjoyed our couples only trips.
Last September my husband, Jim and I celebrated our 30th anniversary with a trip for just the two of us, I was alittle leery of finding enough to do for just the two of us, boy, I couldn't have been more wrong! Staying at the Yacht and Beach Club Resort was the perfect location! Close to Epcot, loved the short walk that took us right into the back of the United Kingdom. Walking through Epcot before the rest of the park had it's daily opening ceremony was such a special experience, we worked our way through the United Kingdom and Canada with the park virtually empty, what a cool sight that was! As we approach the opening ceremony we heard all the fanfare and heard the test track car driven by Mickey Mouse, along with Minnie, Donald and Goofy there to welcome the guest of honor! Wow, what a fun sight to see and experience! Also, the walk over to the opening ceremony can be very romantic, you feel as if you are the only two people in the "world"!
My husband and I really enjoyed our anniversary trip, we made dining reservations prior to leaving for our trip, the dining reservation phone assistant was very helpful, if we couldn't get a reservation for a specific restaurant she was able to suggest an equally nice place she could get us into. The Yacht and Beach Club has a wonder pool and adjoining dining spot, Hurricane Hannah's, our favorite bartender, Tom, was always on top of things, with the many people he served everyday he remembered us personally. It's especially fun to stop at the Magic Kingdom's City hall and get a pin commemorating a special occasion, ours of course said our 30th Anniversary, everywhere we went during our trip staff as well as guests wished us best wishes. The Kona Cafe at the Polynesian Resort gave us a beautifully decorated special dessert at the end of our breakfast! Dessert after breakfast.....only with Disney!!
So, whether your traveling with your whole family, your immediate family or just the two of you, Disney truly knows how to make you feel like the most important visitor of the day or how ever long you are lucky enough to be there!
