The Pirates League ~ Not Just For Kids

Join the Crew! Captain Jack and his trusted mates have searched across the land to find treasures and new recruits to join the crew. In The Pirates League, saavy Pirates will Transform boys and girls and give them their own Pirate look and name, Train them to swashbuckle, Teach them the official Pirate League Oath, and Prepare them for their very own Parade of Pirates! The Pirates League is an interactive Pirate experience you won't want to miss!

Having an six-year-old daughter who is an only-child of two Disney fanatics and DVC owners, you can imagine that I have quite a little Disney princess on my hands. Well, you’d imagine correctly and we have had our fair share of visits to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique over the years. So…on our most recent trip I put my foot down. “We’re doing The Pirates League…final answer!” I commanded a break from the BBB and this time we went all out and got the whole family involved. It was quite a blast!

The Pirate League Oath
The decor was so cool!
Upon our arrival, we were immediately escorted inside where we were all made to take the Pirate League Oath and my husband and I were given our Pirate names. This is based on a roll of the dice inside a tumbling treasure chest, which then led our Pirate wench to deciper a code and rename us…(drumroll) Bart Singedskull and Kate Goodwater, respectively. FYI..."Mermaids" aren't given new names. I guess they're too pretty for that :) Following our swearing in ceremony, we waited inside the main room for approximately 20 minutes before our session started. Unfortunately, they attempted to split us all up into 3 different corners of the room so I had to request to be moved back closer to my daughter so that I could take pictures. My husband remained on the opposite side of the room so we didn’t see him again until his transformation was complete. I thought it was very strange for them to arrange it this way which was my only real complaint of the day. It was important for me to get closer to her because Photopass photographers do not roam the room and take photos as they do at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, so if you want photos of the process…BRING A CAMERA!

The Packages:
My little princess was still able to get in her girly fix by choosing the Mermaid Package. I was quite impressed with the whole production and she thoroughly enjoyed the experience as well. The Mermaid Package is fantastic for little girls! She received so many compliments throughout the day, but most people thought she just went to a face painter (even though she was wearing the special Mermaid sash). That's not a far stretch, I suppose, as not much is involved beyond the “face paint”…just twisting the sides of her hair and pinning it down, painting her nails, and giving her a color changing mermaid necklace (which is beautiful and one she can wear for a long time). According to the package details, she was to receive a color changing hair clip which she did not receive. Instead, her hair was pinned back with Mickey rhinestone bobby pins. It was cute but the flower hair clip would have been much nicer and mermaid-y plus it would compliment her new necklace. Regardless, she loved the look and it was a nice change from the BBB! She also received a Pirate bag containing her makeup palette and nail polish. The cost totaled $39.95 + tax.

My husband chose the  First Mate Package. It includes your choice of five different facial effects, sword and sheath, bandana, earring/eye patch, pirate tattoo, pirate bag, coin necklace, and a customized pirate oath (with your pirate name). I personally loved his makeover! He was given a beard, a black eye, a large scar, and smoky eyes which lasted all day. The cost totaled $34.95 + tax.

I chose the Empress Package. My package was probably the least involved. Basically all that was done was a smoky eye effect, some glitter on my face along with a glitter face gem, nails were painted, and I was also adorned with a bandana, earring/eye patch, pirate tattoo, coin necklace, pirate bag (to hold my make-up palette and nail polish), as well as my sword and sash. Not much to the makeup application but I love the bandana and the little extras that we were able to keep. The cost totaled $34.95 + tax.

After your transformation is complete, you are announced (loudly) to the room as a new pirate or mermaid…to which everyone cheers! We were then taken over to the front corner of the room to then permitted access to "the secret room". (Granted we were told never to speak of the secret room so hopefully no pirates are fans of The Disney Gals.) The secret room was really cool and is basically the hidden area where they take your photograph which is included as part of your package. Our pirate photographer also showed my daughter where they keep secret treasure and she was allowed to take two gold medallion necklaces to present to her new pirate friends (um...that would be her parents).

Within minutes of emerging from the secret room, our photos were ready.  We received 3 photo packages with our pirate packages and since we also had the Photopass+ we were able to add all of the images taken to our card as well (which had to be done later at a Photopass location).

The whole experience was definitely a lot of fun and I really enjoyed doing it as a family but we (the adults) probably won’t do it again. It was a great one-time experience for the family and I would highly recommend it! I LOVE our keepsake photos and I think I may have just knocked out a Christmas card photo session at the same time! *Bonus*

(*Another package option that was not mentioned was the Jake and the Never Land Pirates Package. This package includes a Jake Bandana with Faux Hair, Jake Facial Features, Sword and Sheath, Pirate Bag, and Coin Necklace.)
