From Pumpkin to Princess
The Road to Fit and Fabulous
Create a Goal!
So...I don't know about you, but I have a really hard time committing to exercise (especially running) without a goal in sight. I have had all good intentions of starting back up with running again but have continuously fallen short. With the upcoming 20th Anniversary Walt Disney World Marathon, I have become energized to shoot for another runDisney race this year and I have my sights set on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-miler that is held towards the end of September every year. Registration has not even begun on this race yet and I have 9 months to train so I have no excuses, right? Another huge commitment that I just made is that I'm putting it in writing for you all to see! No backing out now!!
If you're anything like us here at The Disney Gals, you may need a goal as well. You may also need to hold yourself accountable by putting it in writing and talking to others that are going through the same things as you. Therefore, we plan to make The Disney Gals a place where you can do just that. Why? Well, because we'll be going through it too and we sure could use some support as well.
We have already begun working on getting an official training plan set up specifically for us by a certified running coach for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror 10-miler. We asked for a very easy couch to 10-mile plan for us to complete together! Like I said we have plenty of time to train for this and the goal is no injuries so we will be taking it very easy. My motto with running races is "Unless you seriously plan on winning the thing, don't kill yourself...just finish!"
Based on the hopeful positive response we receive in joining us on our journey from Pumpkin to Princess we may even be able to organize a group trip (including group rates) for the Tower of Terror weekend! We know that another big concern for people wanting to attend a runDisney event is the fear of doing it alone and/or the cost of doing it alone. We are here to squash those fears for you so all you will have to do is start moving and we'll even help you with that! If a fear of moving concerns you...STOP! If you can walk, you can "run" a runDisney race. Don't let the "run" part scare you. The training plan will work for walkers as well. If the thought of running 10-miles scares you too much to start, then no worries. We will have a group just doing the 5K (3.1 miles). Regardless of which race you choose, our goal is to just get everyone under a 16:00 minute mile pace to keep you in the game. That is all. Trust me, you CAN do this. Make 2013 your year to stop making excuses.
Please comment below or on our facebook event page to let us know if you would consider joining us on our journey. We would LOVE to have you! We would also welcome any other comments or suggestions on what you would like to have us do to make this as easy, painless and FUN as possible!
Go Team Disney Gals!!

Go Team Disney Gals!!

Tricia is right don't be afraid if you can't "run" you don't have too. I did my first 5k last Oct. after getting a new knee in May. I did not "run" (nor would the doctor let me), but i did walk it and this Saturday I am doing the Polar Dash 5k and I even have my husband doing it with me! It's a start and you have to start somewhere, so put on your walking shoes and let's go.
ReplyDelete...and we are all soooo proud of you Judy! You are an inspiration to everyone who thinks that they can't do something like this because of surgery. If the doctor has cleared you to walk, then let's do this!
DeleteFollowing you over from facebook! I have never run in my life (except for in high school cross training for swimming and then I hated it). I am turning 45 this summer and it is time to take my life back...right now I am a pumpkin and cant wait to change to that princess!
ReplyDeleteAww...I LOVE this comment! This just put a big smile on my face because I would like nothing more than to help you do just that. So proud of you for taking the first step to reclaiming your life. Honestly, I felt the same way about running back in high school but it has taken on a different meaning now that I'm older. Plus these race events (especially at Disney) are like no other! You'll be hooked after your first race and I would LOVE to keep this up if the interest continues. We love having you on board! Welcome to our little group :)
DeleteDefinitely want to try it this year. I've never enjoyed or seen the need for running (unless there's a gimlet-eyed psycho carrying a knife running behind me ;-) ), but "as we age", I realize that running will be a good thing :-) . And where else but at WDW? Hopefully I can persuade my 16 year old to join me...
ReplyDeleteToo funny and yes I know the feeling! I didn't start running at all until I was into my 30's. I go in and out of training periods but once I make a commitment for a race, I'm hooked. Then, once I run a race, all I want to do is more. The events are sooo much fun, especially at Disney. You'll have a blast!
DeleteWell, dh is skeptical about me making it for 10 miles so I guess now I HAVE to do it just to prove him wrong! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHello!! I'm Luciana from Brazil and I'm glad to see that we're all in the exact same situation - not including the fact that I've started running this month kkkkkkk
ReplyDeleteSorry that my english is...well...it sucks, but I'm in love with your blog ♥ so I HAD to write u Gals.
I've paid "the cost of doing it alone", but I'll follow your advices to finish the run.
Actually, I think I'm a little crazier than most of the Gals - I'll run both 10 miler and Happy haunted - so, I promise u I'll TRY REALLY HARD to finish both (I NEED those medals!).
Hope to see u there - will u use some t-shirt to identify your group?
Best.
