Week Five!
Some other big news for the week was that registration began on Tuesday! I hope everyone has already registered or plans to do so very soon as the 10-mile races are becoming very popular among the racing community. If you haven't registered yet, here's the link! Registering is your first (and most important) step to making a commitment and will serve as a great way to jump start your motivation.
One month down and on to month two! I kinda hoped you weren't all following my words too closely last week when I said that I was going to try to run 3 days last week while on vacation and was just going to try and glaze over it like it never happened but here's the deal: We are all going to have down weeks between now and October so I might as come clean. I actually have a good reason which is that I tore my hamstring while riding the Flow Rider (simulated surfing) during our first day at sea and am still in a little pain a week and a half later. With that said, we were so busy on this cruise, I probably wouldn't have run...torn hamstring or not. In fact (while I'm being candid), the only part of the ship that I NEVER saw was the gym! Oh well. I wrote last week off and started right back up where I left off this week. Moral of the story is: Live your life and when you can get back into your routine, just jump right back on like it never happened. You'll be happy you did!

Week Five
We have spent the last two weeks working our way up to completing 1.5 miles. Now we are going to spend the next two weeks, getting ourselves up to 2 miles! Our goal this week is to hit the pavement (or treadmill) three times this week for 20-25 mins, following a 5 minute walking warm-up. We'll be starting with jogging for 2:00, walking for 1:30, jogging for 2:00, walking for 1:30, etc. Like I said earlier, feel free to modify it to your liking and fitness level but we have plenty of time so there's no need to push yourself too hard here.
That's it! We'll meet back up next Saturday to discuss our goals for week six and talk about how we did on week five. Also, don't forget to check out Didi's website :DisTherapy for more beginner tips every Tuesday!
Now, for The Disney Gal Confessional. Here's how we did:
I will reiterate this every week: The walk/run times are mere guidelines and are to be altered depending on your fitness level. If you can only run for 30 seconds and walk for 2 minutes, that's fine too! If the answer to the question, "Are you doing more for your health this week than you did last week?" is "YES" then good for you!!
Walkers just walk a minimum of 3 times this week and next week and try to work yourself up to 2 miles by the end of two weeks (March 2).

Now, for The Disney Gal Confessional. Here's how we did:
Disney Gal Kelly:
The good news is my speed is getting a bit faster, that being my "run" is about 4.5 mph and I can keep that up for 3 miles. The bad news is I ate a lot like Tricia without the benefit of a cruise. Stress gets me every time. I have not signed up for the ToT run yet. I know I can do the 5K, but the thought of 10 miles still scares me. Maybe in another week as I see more improvement (and healthier eating) I can pull the trigger. In the meantime, I found a really cool 5K run called The Color Run. Check it out, there are being held all across the country.
Disney Gal Tricia:
Like I stated earlier, I had to get back into my routine after a long week of eating like every meal was my last and not exercising, but I did it. I did my typical run/walk on Tuesday and Thursday this week for 2 miles each but my pace time did suffer a little. Both runs averaged a pace of an 11:30 min/mile. I also did workout videos (P90X and Insanity) on Monday and Wednesday (about 40-45 mins. each) at a very modified level. My intention is to run again today (Saturday) for my first "long run" and try to get in 3 miles.
Disney Gal Judy:
Okay so I am going to be honest too, this week I really have not done much. I have started to use the stairs at work when I have to go between floor, I am on the 5th floor and I had to go to the 8th floor, oh my was I out of breath when I got to the person I needed to see, but that did not stop me when I needed to go to 3 about an hour later (okay it is easier to down then up, but in my case the going down hurts more on my knee then the going up). I made my husband promise that we would start walking again next week (when it is hopefully a little warmer here).
I signed up for the 5k as the doctor will not let me do the 10-Miler (as much as I tried to talk my husband into letting me do it) it is not worth damage to my knee, so anyone out there who is afraid to do the 10-Miler, why not join me on the 5k? Don't forget to check-out our Meet and Great Event link below, we would love to meet you all before the races.
Life happens but don't let is get in the way of your goals.
