From Pumpkin to Princess
The Road to Fit and Fabulous
Bring on Week Three!
That's it! We'll meet back up next Saturday to discuss our goals for week four and talk about how we did on week three. Also, don't forget to check out Didi's website :DisTherapy for more beginner tips every Tuesday!
Now, for The Disney Gal Confessional. Here's how we did:
I am happy to report that our weather warmed up slightly in the beginning of the week and I was able to get outdoors and get in some mileage before the snow hit us on Friday! Hopefully you have all been able to start the plan as well and we'd love to hear your feedback on it and how you are feeling. We completely understand that the plan will not work perfect for everyone. It is extremely difficult to devise a plan for a group that range from zero activity to current 10K (and beyond) runners which is why we have to leave it to each individual to modify this to accommodate your level and we understand that no two people will be following this exactly the same. If you stick to the theory that we are striving to be at a 5K (3.1 miles) level by late March/early April and a 10K (6.2 miles) level by mid-June we'll all be ahead of the game and it will be smooth sailing in the summer.
Well, we have our first two weeks behind us which just may be the hardest. Getting into a routine and working through the soreness that comes with working out for the first time should hopefully start to be a thing of the past. Soon, you will actually miss walking/ running if you are forced to give up a day. I know it sounds like craziness, but it's true!

Now on to week three:
Week Three
We have spent the last two weeks working our way up to completing one mile. Now we are going to spend the next two weeks, getting ourselves up to 1.5 miles! Our goal this week is to hit the pavement (or treadmill) three times this week for 15-20 mins, following a 5 minute walking warm-up. We'll be starting with jogging for 1:30, walking for 1:30, jogging for 1:30, walking for 1:30, etc. Like I said earlier, feel free to modify it to your liking and fitness level but we have plenty of time so there's no need to push yourself too hard here.
Walkers just walk a minimum of 2-3 times this week and next week and try to work yourself up to 1.5 miles by the end of two weeks (February 16).

Now, for The Disney Gal Confessional. Here's how we did:
Disney Gal Tricia:
I only fit in two days of actual running this week but I also did one day of the Insanity workout (40 mins.) and a 20 min. elliptical workout. I am slightly ahead of our running plan and am already worked up to running for 2 miles at a run for 9:00 min./walk for 1:00 min. schedule which has been yielding a 11:00/mile pace so far.
Disney Gal Kelly:
I am nowhere close to being at Tricia's level...yet :) We had some crazy weather here this week. One minute it was 60 degrees out, the next it was 6 degrees and really windy so most of my workouts were inside again. I have been keeping my same speed, with 4.3 as my "running" pace. But even if I don't ever feel comfortable speeding that up, it won't get me swept up by the pace cart at the Tower of Terror run, so I'm good with that.
So, how did you all do?
Disney Gal Judy:
Okay and I am no where near either Tricia or Kelly, but I am not giving up! It was a bad week here in Chicago and the only day it was 60 I had a company dinner (ugh). I really have not been out walking at all this week so don't feel bad if you have had a down week, there is today!! Now today it is snowing here, but I will figure something out.
Keep up the great work!

I increased my streches and sit ups. I did 15 minutes every other day this week. Also, watching my calorie intake. I parked as far away from all stores as possible. The pedometer on my phone registered over 2000 steps a day. So that's improved for me! Yeah!
ReplyDeleteThis is great Tamela!! So happy for you. A little improvement every week is the best news :)
DeleteGreat Tamela! Every little bit helps! I park on the fourth level and work and take the stairs everyday, i am trying too.
ReplyDeleteI love this whole idea of pumpkin to princess Gals, just love it! I will not be running any marathons soon, but love this way of getting in some kind of shape, in a Disney sort of way :-)

Thanks Suz! As much as we would love to have you join us in October, we're happy to have you along for the fitness :) Adding a little Disney to anything makes it just a little more fun, doesn't it?
