Get ready to kick up your feet and smile and dance along, and even shed a tear or two because today we got our very look at the trailer for the most anticipated movie of the holiday season MARY POPPINS RETURNS.
There are some moments in your life that stay with you forever and for me, it was sitting in a dark theater, all by myself seeing the magic of MARY POPPINS come to life. There before my eyes was the perfect nanny played then by the impeccable Julie Andrews and dancing right alongside her making life fun once again, the irresistible Dick Van Dyke and suddenly everything was right in my universe.
It was a time when I had just lost the most important person in my life, my grandfather, we had moved to a new town where I knew no one and my world had turned upside down but in that theater, and multiple times following the practically perfect moment, life made sense and I was happy once again. Over the years, as life happened around me as it can and does, it was MARY POPPINS that would keep me company and with the same magic as that very first time I lost myself in the movie, I was laughing once again. This Christmas, Mary Poppins is returning to the big screen at a time when I need her more than ever in MARY POPPINS RETURNS introducing a whole new generation to the nanny who could change a life quicker than you can say Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and reminding the rest of us of a day once long ago when a Spoonful of Sugar could make the medicine go down.
In Disney’s MARY POPPINS RETURNS, the all-new original musical and sequel, Mary Poppins is back to help the next generation of the Banks family find the joy and wonder missing in their lives following a personal loss. Emily Blunt stars as the practically-perfect nanny with unique magical skills who can turn any ordinary task into an unforgettable, fantastic adventure and Lin-Manuel Miranda plays her friend Jack, an optimistic street lamplighter who helps bring light—and life—to the streets of London.
MARY POPPINS RETURNS is directed by Rob Marshall. The screenplay is by David Magee and the screen story is by Magee & Rob Marshall & John DeLuca based upon the Mary Poppins Stories by PL Travers. The producers are John DeLuca, p.g.a., Rob Marshall, p.g.a. and Marc Platt, p.g.a. with Callum McDougall serving as executive producer. The music score is by Marc Shaiman and the film features all-new original songs with music by Shaiman and lyrics by Scott Wittman and Shaiman.
The film also stars Ben Whishaw as Michael Banks; Emily Mortimer as Jane Banks; Julie Walters as the Banks’ housekeeper Ellen; Pixie Davies, Nathanael Saleh and introducing Joel Dawson as the Banks’ children, with Colin Firth as Fidelity Fiduciary Bank’s William Weatherall Wilkins; and Meryl Streep as Mary’s eccentric cousin, Topsy. Angela Lansbury appears as the Balloon Lady, a treasured character from the PL Travers books and Dick Van Dyke is Mr. Dawes, Jr., the retired chairman of the bank now run by Firth’s character.
