It’s a tale of courage, a tale of destiny, it’s a tale of following your heart and your calling, it is a tale of family, it is Disney’s Moana. The wait is over and the ocean is calling as Disney’s Moana sails into theaters everywhere. In this beautifully told coming of age story, where the ocean and the music are as much a part of this magical tale as the characters themselves, the movie will take your breath away and have you coming out of the theater singing and smiling.
The film brings to the forefront the stories of the Polynesian cultures and like all great Disney movies you immediately find yourself totally immersed in the story that will sweep you away as you follow along with with the young girl who embarks on a journey to find herself.
This is the story in every sense of the word of a hero, and yes a female hero, who not a princess and has no love interest, who finds the inner strength within herself to make the voyage that allows her to find her own destiny and in doing so, saves herself and her world. Throughout the breathtaking film, where the ocean is actually an integral character, you come to realize through this artistry in storytelling that, like Moana and Maui, we all have internal battles and struggles that we each much dig deep inside to conquer but it is when we learn to not give up, that we truly win.
Heihei the rooster is worth the price of the ticket alone because truth be told, there’s a little bit of Heihei inside of us all and the original score will live on in your heart and soul long after the last credits role and fill your spirit with joy. But as captivating as the characters are and as memorable as the music is, it is hearing the laughter of the children in the theater that you will hold onto the most, and make you want to see unique movie over and over again. This is classic Disney at its very best and Disney’s Moana will sail into your life and capture your hearts and your minds in only the way Disney can do. With characters that will remind you of the power of believing in yourself, to the antics of Heihei, to the music that will stay with you long after the last credit rolls, Moana will leave your heart with filled with joy.
Disney’s Moana brings to life the story of the adventurous teenager Moana who, with help from demigod Maui, sails out on a daring mission to prove herself a master wayfinder and save her people.
The story of Moana was inspired in part by the oral histories of the people and cultures of Oceania. Three thousand years ago, Polynesian voyagers, the greatest navigators in the world, voyaged across the vast Pacific, discovering thousands of islands. But then, according to scholars, for approximately a millennium, their voyages stopped – and no one knows exactly why. Navigation is such a big part of Pacific culture and the ancient Polynesians found their way across the seas without the use of modern instruments, using their knowledge of nature, the stars, the waves and the currents.
It is said that the ocean doesn’t separate the islands, it connects them. Voyaging is a real source of pride for Pacific Islanders, a part of their identity. They were, and continue to be, some of the greatest explorers of all time. What they did was quite sophisticated, borderline miraculous.
There are many theories, but no one is certain, about what may have led to this 1,000- year gap in exploration; this sparked the filmmakers’ imaginations and led to the makings of Moana now you are invited to grab the family and set sail with with her as she embarks on a journey that will see Moana sail across the open ocean in this action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds, and along the way, Moana will fulfill the ancient quest of her ancestors and discovers the one thing she’s always sought: her own identity. It is a tale of courage, a tale of destiny, it is a tale of following your heart and your calling, it’s a tale of family, it is Disney’s Moana.
