Treat your kids to a Chocolate Berrilicious Smoothie-ccino, a healthy treat full of berries and yogurt all kids will love.
At the beginning of 2017 I resolved to get healthy and eat better. Lofty goal indeed, but it wasn’t limited to just me. I want everyone in my family to start to eat better and keep in mind healthy choices both at meals and snack time. One of the best ways to incorporate more healthy options is with a smoothie, packed with key vitamins, nutrients, protein and fiber. So this week’s Smoothie Tuesday is all about a smoothie your kids will ask for time and time again.
My kids are tweens and teens and LOVE to stop at a popular coffee chain for a frappuccino. We stick to the no coffee cream based, low fat options. I’ve always thought it would be nice to offer an alternative at home that would be packed with the fiber and goodness of real fruit, while allowing me to control the fat and calories at the same time. After a little experimentation, the Chocolate Berrilicious Smoothie-ccino was born.
Full of strawberries and raspberries, plus some low-fat vanilla yogurt and skim milk, this smoothie packs a punch in terms of vitamins, nutrients, calcium, protein and fiber. Add a drizzle of chocolate and kids will fall in love with their at home coffeehouse creation.
If you really want to replicate the frappuccino experience, you can top this smoothie with a dollop of whip cream and chocolate sprinkles, shavings or drizzle. Or serve this smoothie in the morning to give your kids a healthy start to their day.
The ice gives the smoothie more of a frappuccino consistency. You can leave the ice out if you want a more creamy texture. I use a one cup to one cup ratio of raspberries and strawberries, but you can use any combination according to your preference.
Just save a little for yourself – trust me, you will want to indulge in one of these smoothies also!
